Throughout our blog we have mentioned how great the Marina Alta is for hiking. The mountainous terrain and natural beauty, offering many great views as well as being home to various points of historical interest including castles, museums and cave paintings, makes it a great place to explore.

However if you're interested in covering a bit more distance and discovering more of the community of Valencia, the topology provides excellent options for driving routes on winding roads that will really show off the Marina Alta and neighbouring regions.

Regardless of whether you are an experienced rider or a weekend warrior, we've created a route that you can enjoy on a performance bike, cruiser or any other motorcycle.

Denia, Galp

For those in the Marina Alta that enjoy a driving route, Dénia is a great place to start. The coastal town has a rich history, there is plenty to do, whether you want to relax on a beautiful beach, visit museums and galleries or go on a tapas tour.

For many in the area it is common to start a driving route at the Galp petrol station on the outskirts of the city. Leaving Dénia, take the CV-725, and head to Pedreguer via the N-332. You can follow the Avenida d'Augusto Villalonga Alemany, the CV-724, through the town and leave on the CV-720.

This stretch will take you on a stunning route through the mountains, forests and groves of the region with spectacular views. The section between Castell de Castells and Fageca you'll discover some amazing sweeping bends and various hairpins - a very enjoyable section of the route. Once you arrive at Fageca you'll be able to leave the CV-720 and join the CV-754 to the first stop, Gorga.

Don't worry if you miss the turning for the CV-754 as the CV-720 will also take you here.

Gorga

Gorga is known for its olive groves and, like Alcalalí, almond trees. In Spring the blooming almond trees add to the natural beauty of the area. Gorga is also known for a 2000 year old olive tree, below which is a small space in which you can sit, with the roots of the tree forming the ceiling.

Taking the CV-710 south from Gorga and heading back east on the CV-70 you'll find some of what is basically the last straight road until Altea la Vella as it begins to twist and turn, passing the towns of Benasau and Ares del Bosc until you eventually reach Confrides.

Confrides

About half way along the route you will arrive in Confrides, making it a good spot to take a break. On your way into the town you'll discover two popular restaurants, La Venta and El Pirineo, both of which have outdoor seating where you can relax, taking in the views of the mountains and groves that surround the town.

Alternatively, approximately half a kilometre after passing Confrides is the Font de Toni, a small natural space with benches, ideal for a peaceful time out.

Upon leaving Confrides, further along the CV-70 you will arrive at Benimantell after which you need to join the CV-755, which will lead you to Guadalest.

Guadalest

Guadalest is a beautiful town known for the Alcozaiba castle and bell tower that is practically built into the mountainside itself. A great place to take a break, climb to the castle and walk the walls with incredible views of the valley and reservoir.

Continuing along the CV-755 for approximately 12 kilometres of tight bends and hairpins you'll arrive at Callosa de Ensarría passing the Historical Museum of Vehicles on the way, an apt place to visit for anybody conducting a bike route.

Callosa de Ensarría

Callosa de Ensarría is known for loquats, a locally grown fruit, and the Fonts d'Algar – natural swimming pools and waterfall – and a calvary, which if you don't mind the 700 metre climb, makes a great place to take in some views and relax. But currently, don't expect google to reveal this little secret.

After Callosa de Ensarría, following the CV-755, where the route becomes a little faster as the turns become less sharp, after approximately 12 kilometres you'll arrive at Altea la Vella.

Altea la Vella

The charming, white-walled town of Altea la Vella is the last town you'll pass before reaching the N-332 that will take you back to Dénia, making it an ideal last pit stop before finishing your journey. You'll find plenty of bars and restaurants offering traditional Mediterranean and Valencian dishes.

Alternatively the Buddha Castle serves Nepalese and Indian Dishes or visit Condola for Italian.

After continuing along the CV-755 you'll join the N-332, which will take you all the way back to the CV-725, leading you back to Dénia. Along the way, if you fancy making more stops, you'll pass by some interesting towns of the Marina Alta such as Benissa, Teulada or Gata de Gorgos.
