A Guide to Castell de Castells
Castell de Castells is located in the south-west of the Marina Alta, completely surrounded by mountains, including La Xortà, which reaches over 1,000 metres above sea level.
It is one of the most rural places in the region, in a beautiful natural environment, making it great place for a quiet retreat.

What to do in Castell de Castells
Fiestas
Folklore and Gastronomy Fair
On the last weekend of April, Castell de Castells celebrate their heritage with workshops, street parties, traditional music and a market offering artisanal and locally grown produce.
Patronal Festivities
The patronal festivities of Castell de Castells take place in July honouring Saint Anne, with processions as well as the Moors and Christians parades.
Almond Harvest
At the beginning of September is the Petracos festival, which celebrates the almond harvest with live music, community meals and street parties.
Hiking
Costa Blanca Interior
The Costa Blanca Interior is a 20 stage journey from Dénia to Orihuela that explores the incredible landscapes of Alicante, of which Castell de Castells serves as the beginning of the fourth stage ending in Confrides.
It's a difficult trek and The FEMECV currently have the route registered as undergoing quality control checks, so be sure to take every precaution before setting out and seek advice from local guides.
Benigembla to Castell de Castells
The hiking route from Benigembla to Castell de Castells is approximately 14km, which goes via the peak of Cocoll providing views of the stunning scenery in the region.
Take care to check with local guides and properly prepare as quality control is currently not in place according to the FEMECV.
What to See in Castell de Castells
Cave Art
The Pla de Petracos Sanctuary is considered one of the most important sites of prehistoric art in Europe.
Located in the beautiful, mountainous landscapes to the north of the village, it is believed to have been a place of worship with various figures painted with geometric and serpentine motifs.
Ethnography Museum
The museum of ethnography contains a collection of objects that present the traditional ways of rural life in the mountainous regions of the Marina Alta, as well as a room dedicated to the Pla de Petracos.
Where to Eat in Castell de Castells
There are a few restaurants in Castell de Castells, such as Ca Jacinto and Ca Joan that offer delicious, traditional Valencian dishes, that are close to the centre.

Benigembla
Benigembla is a charming inland village of the Marina Alta, known for it's annual art festival, Mostra d'Art Urbà, where town itself becomes the canvas, allowing artists to paint a mural on one of the local buildings.
