Fiestas

Moors and Christians

The popular Moors and Christians Festival is celebrated in numerous towns in the Marina Alta at different times of the year.

In Moraira it takes place in June, usually during the second or third week. The festivities involve reenactments of battles, parades of "filades" in their costumes and live music.

Patronal Festivities

The patronal festivities last two weeks beginning in the middle of July, which involves fireworks displays, processions, street parties and the bous a la mar.

Go Karts

AV Karting, located between Moraira and Teulada gives children and adults a chance to race around a 700m track, with karts available for a variety of ages and skill levels, some of which can reach speeds of up to 100km/h

Hiking

Widow's Ravine to Moraig Bay

Accessible from Calle Paloma in the Paichi urbanisation, the route that follows the Barranc de la Viuda (Widow's Ravine) to the bay of Moraig in Benitatxell is a hike of close to 4km that follows the coastline along the cliffs, providing stunning views of the region's natural beauty and the Mediterranean.

The route is currently registered as having active quality control by the FEMECV.

What to See in Moraira

Moraira Castle

The construction of Moraira castle is believed to have been completed in 1742 to help defend against Berber pirates, and can be found looking south over l'Ampolla Beach. Its current state is mostly a reconstruction after it was restored in the 1980s, with a height of 10 metres and approximately 200 square metres of interior space.

Cova de les Cendres

The Cova de les Cendres (Cave of Ashes), is a site of archaeological interest where discoveries from as far back as the Neolithic period have been made.

It is considered one of the most important sites on the Mediterranean and the Archaeological Museum of Alicante have created an in-depth publication about the findings.

It can be viewed by taking a detour from the route up to the Cap D'Or Watchtower, but it is closed to the public and cannot be entered.

Cap D'Or Watchtower

The watchtower found at the highest point of the Cap D'or (Cape of Gold) offers some spectacular views of the surrounding area.

One of the many towers constructed in the the 16th century as a means of watching over the Mediterranean due to frequent incursions made by Berber pirates along the Valencian coast.

There is a short hiking route on the FEMECV that shows how to get from El Portet de Moraira to the watchtower, which currently has all the necessary quality controls.

Where to Eat in Moraira

Moraira has a fantastic range of dining choices from across the Mediterranean, including two restaurants that are in the Michelin guide in 2026.

A few popular options include:

• Atlas specialises in traditional Moroccan dishes with a selection of Mediterranean options also available.
• Carvón are experts in wine and cooking over a flame, and they were included in the Michelin Guide in 2026.
• El Rincon de Moraira is popular for its traditional rice dishes and fish.
• Nazario Cano is a gourmet offering with a contemporary menu designed around traditional Valencian seafood dishes and also on the Michelin Guide.
