Calp, the southernmost municipality in Marina Alta, boasts a rich history dating back to the Bronze Age. It is known for the Penyal d'Ifac, a large limestone outcrop as recognisable as Montgó in Jávea.

Situated between Moraira and Benidorm, Calp offers excellent connectivity to major cities like Valencia and Alicante. The clear Mediterranean waters, beaches and lively festivals make it an attractive place to visit for people all over.

Bars & Restaurants

There are many popular restaurants and bars in Calp where you can enjoy dishes from all over the world, whether you want to dine overlooking the Mediterranean or in the old town.

Lapsus Bistro and El torreó are close to the old town near the Peça tower while Restaurante Capri and Punjabi Curry are closer to the sea, the former overlooking the bay of Calp just to name a few.

Fiestas

Carnaval de Calpe

In February in Calpe they celebrate Carnaval with live street performances known as Xaranga and residents dress up for colour parades with a prize for the best costume.

Las Fallas

A popular festival of Valencia from the first to the nineteenth of March, where they construct wooden and cardboard caricatures and scenes, which are set alight at the end of the celebration.

Bonfires of San Juan

Another popular festival in the Mediterranean, and other parts of Spain, where they celebrate the summer solstice with bonfires on the beaches, traditionally to burn bad memories starting afresh.

Virgen del Carmen

In July they celebrate the festival of Virgen del Carmen, the patron saint of fisherfolk, with processions in the Mediterranean sea along with a variety of other activities.

Fiestas Patronales

In honour of la Virgen de las Nieves, Calpe holds one of its biggest festivals, which includes a bull run, costume parades and floats as well as street parties at night.

Moors and Christians

Calp is another town that hosts a festival of Moors and Christians, which commemorates the reconquest of Spain. Like in many other places they perform a disembarkation on the beach, a re-enactment of a battle and various bands parade the town in their distinct uniform.

Hiking

PR-CV 340, the route that takes you to the Olta mountain peak can be found by heading to the La Ermita de Vella d'Olta. The state of the 10km hike is currently without quality control and it is unknown how well the route is sign posted so, like any hiking trip, caution is advised. But should you make the climb, you'll discover some of the most beautiful views of the Mediterranean and be able to see as far as Montgo in Jávea.

Museu d'història i Arqueologia de Cal

Known as the Casa de la Senyoreta, here you can discover more about the past of Calp with materials from as far back as the bronze age.

Torreo de la Peça

The Peça tower forms part of the ancient walls that were built to protect it from Muslim invasion during the XIII and XIV centuries.

Parc Natural del Penyal d'Ifac

The Natural Park of Calp's iconic outcrop provides some incredible views of the Mediterranean sea and the Marina Alta. It is recommended to go with suitable clothing and they don't advise climbing beyond the tunnel with minors as the path becomes dangerous.

The Surrounding Area

Benissa

Benissa is home to various sites of cultural interest including two museums, as well as boasting restaurants that feature in the Michelin Guide, one of which has received a star. Additionally, in June, Benissa is another town that hosts a festival of Moors and Christians.

Teulada-Moraira

The two population centres, Teulada and Moraira, make up one municipality, Teulada being the interior of the two and Moraira the coastal town. Experience a wine tasting at the Bodega Montesanco, have some fun go karting or enjoy the various fiestas, including another festival of Moors and Christians in June.

Altea

Located in the neighbouring Marina Baixa, Altea is another of Valencia's beautiful coastal towns, where you will also find Altea Vella, which forms part of a motorcycle route that we created for those that want to explore more of the Valencian community on two wheels.
