A Guide to Benichembla

Benichembla is in the south western part of the Marina Alta in the region known as the Vall de Pop, a valley of great beauty, and close to one of the only mountains with a peak greater than 1000 metres in the region.

There are a few bars and restaurants in Benichembla with delicious Valencian dishes and tapas, specifically typical of the Vall de Pop region, and occasional live show.

Fiestas

At the beginning of the year on the 16th and 17th they celebrate Saint Honorat and Saint Antoni.

Further festivities take place between the 12th to the 17th of August, when they honour Saint Joseph, Saint Augustine, Saint Francis and the Assumption.

Art & Culture

Thanks to the urban art exhibition hosted at the end of July, BIMAU, Benichembla is known for the stunning art that adorns the walls of the buildings in the town.

Hiking

Just over three kilometres away is La Cova de la Cistella, a route you can access from the north-western corner of the town.

If you’re looking for something a bit tougher, the 14 kilometre hike from Benichembla to Castells de Castells via the peak of Cocoll could be the right choice for you.

The Surrounding Area

Orba is one of the larger towns that is nearby with plenty to do - a great option to indulge in delicious food from the region or other parts of the world, and get to know more about some of the history of the Marina Alta at the Museu del Fang or the Castellet.

Jalón is another great place to visit – Every Saturday they host the Mercat del Rastro, a market for antiquities, as well as the Mercat de la Terra on the first Saturday of the month where you can buy local ecological produce and enjoy tastings and music.
