El Verger is situated in the northern part of the Marina Alta between the Segária mountain and the Mediterranean sea close to some of the best beaches of the Costa Blanca and less than 20 minutes from the centre of Dénia, where you can easily catch a bus to the major towns such as Alicante or Valencia, or even a ferry to beautiful balearic islands.

Bars & Restaurants

There are various bars in El Verger popular with the locals. The Bar and Grill Restaurante BB is known for its flamed grilled meats and rotisserie chicken. Other well-liked restaurants include the Churrascaría Utopia or the Japanese restaurant Yamasaki.

Fiestas

Sant Antoni

In January they celebrate Sant Antoni del Porquet, which involves particpants taking a horse drawn journey to the church plaza where they have mass and a blessing of the animals.

Mig Any Moros I Cristianos

In February is the celebration of Mig Any – it signifies that 6 months have passed since the previous fiestas and therefore 6 months remain until the next. During this fiesta they celebrate with the festival of the Moors and Christians.

Patronal Festivities

In August they honour their patrons, Saint Roque and Saint Isidro, which includes the offering of flowers to the patron and the "guerra de l'aigua", a procession and another Moors and Christians parade. The festival concludes with a fireworks display.

Hiking

La Penya Roja de Segaria, SL-CV 161, is a short circular route of approximately 3km that is currently registered as having good quality control that explores the local area at the base of the Segaría mountain.

There is also The Sleeping Giant route, PR-CV 415, a longer circular route of over 8.5km that goes around the Segaría mountain. The route will also link to Beniarbeig, Sanet y Negrals or Benimeli, however it is currently without any quality control so FEMECV advises caution.

The Camino del Alba is a relatively new addition to the Camino de Santigo of which El Verger is the beginning of the third stage after Jesús Pobre.

Leisure

Beaches

Within 10 minutes you could be sitting on some of the best beaches in the Costa Blanca; El Verger is very close to the Carrer de les Marines, which follows the coastline to Dénia town centre.

Climbing

The Penya Roja, from the aforementioned SL-CV 161 has a rock face great for climbers, although some of the have been unequipped due to the presence of endangered plant life; The Antirrhinum valentinum is in the Red Book of vulnerable plant life in Spain.

If you choose to go climbing take care to follow necessary safety procedures and avoid harming the local flora.

Spelunking

A fun leisure activity for the family, suitable for ages 9 and above, is a visit to the Cova Fosca where you can take a guided tour of this beautiful subterreanean environment.

The Surrounding Area

Beniarbeig

A charming town on the Girona river, Beniarbeig is home to the beautiful Casa Santonja for events and celebrations, as well as many great restaurants such as Coratge or, as featured in the Michelin guide, Casa Pepa.

Ondara

Known for the commercial shopping centre La Portal de la Marina and recently built Casino, Ondara also has some great bodegas and other points of interest such as the Casa de Cultura or a Botanical Garden.

La Xara

Another town in the Marina Alta where you can find great restaurants, such as El Carreter, which also features in the Michelin Guide, La Xara is also very close to the Dénia town centre.
