Benimeli is one of the towns that makes up the subregion known as La Rectoría, a valley that is located between the Segària and Migdia mountain ranges in the northern part of the Marina Alta.
What to do in Benimeli
Cabañas del Barro
Cabañas del Barro is a creative workshop providing ceramics classes in the countryside, where, occasionally, they host other events.
The property also includes cabins for accommodation, making it a great choice for a weekend retreat.
Culture Week
At the end of April, Benimeli celebrates its Culture Week with a programme of workshops, theatre performances, live music and exhibitions.
The event is a great opportunity to see the wide range of artistic talent in the region.
Fiestas
Cor de Jesús
The festival of the Sacred Heart of Jesus is traditionally celebrated in mid-June with a procession and mass. The festivities also include a marching band and a street party.
Patronal Festivities
During the third full week of August, Benimeli honours its patron saints, Ecce Homo and La Puríssima. The streets and balconies are decorated, and the programme includes processions, parades, live music and community events.
There are also more light-hearted activities such as water fights and variety shows.
El Rosari de l'Aurora
Celebrated on the first Sunday of October, El Rosari de l'Aurora begins with an early morning procession followed by mass. Afterwards, the town gathers for a communal lunch.
Hiking
La Segária de Benimeli
The circular route around the Serra de Segària from Benimeli covers approximately 4.8 kilometres. The climb rewards hikers with incredible views over La Rectoría valley and the Pego marshlands.
FEMECV reports that quality control has not been recorded for this trail. As with all mountain routes, it’s advisable to check local conditions and take suitable precautions before setting off.
Where to Eat in Benimeli
In the old town you can find Ca’l Liki, a restaurant serving traditional Valencian dishes such as cocàs and paella, as well as their speciality, wild boar.
