Fiestas
Moors and Christians
In honour of San Jaime, Guardamar’s Moors and Christians festival is held in the second half of July and lasts for around ten days. It’s one of the town’s biggest celebrations.
Highlights include historical re-enactments and parades where residents dress in elaborate costumes and recreate battles of the past.
Visitors can also explore the streetfood and themed nautical markets for local produce and artisan products.
Guardamar Castle
Altough originally built around the 4th centry B.C., the current remains are of Arabic origin. It was almost completely destroyed during the major earthquake of 1829 but has since been restored.
Hiking
The council of Guardamar del Segura have a series of routes that explore the city's natural landscapes and culutural heritage. The routes routes range from a short 1 kilometre walk to a 20 kilometre trek, offering something for all levels.
Along the way you can discover archaeological remains, historic irrigation systems and the reforestation project that prevented desertification of Guardamar.
Museums
Museum of Archaeology
Open since 1990, Guardamar del Segura's Archaeology Museum explores the history and ethnography of the region from the pliocene through to the modern era, with collections of prehistoric tools, Iberian artefacts and much more.
Casa Forestal
Located in the Casa Forestal, the Museum of Engineer Mira is dedicated to the life and work of the Engineer Francisco Mira and the team behind Guardamar's reforestation project.
In the early 20th century, they planted the town's pine forest to prevent the dunes from advancing and burying Guardamar and protecting the town from desrtification.
